Recently, I have mostly been taking photographs of my new wedding stationary range, (along with watching The Fast Show). I find it rather tricky. Hopefully if I keep going I will get some good ones. So if you know anyone who would be interested in my stationary; please send them my way!

In other news, here is a commission I made for a nice man from America. I've never made a tree before but I was pleased with the result, and so was he!

I can't wait until it's warm enough to go camping.

Patterns.

It was grey outside yesterday.

I remembered how much I enjoy painting with gouache. Continuing with my 'patterns' project, I decided to bring some bright colours into the equation. The bottom image is a book cover design for a book I intend to read soon.

I had a nice time last night painting these triangles.

I have set myself a little project based on patterns. I use a lot of pattern within my work but I think actually making a pattern is slightly different.

It struck me that a pattern made by hand is a different thing entirely to one made digitally. Mistakes are sometimes made, and the mark making is not always even. In a way, I think a linear pattern like this one, becomes organic because of the way it's made. In my case, the pattern becomes less neat the further on it goes. I'm not sure this effect could be made if it was produced digitally.

Have I been thinking about this too much? Probably.

I was lost in thought the other day, and it occurred to me that I don't tend to make new year resolutions.

If I do, I don't really tell anybody.

This boy who dresses up as a bear has made some though. They are pretty ambitious don't you think? !

I was lucky enough to be sitting next to 'that old chestnut'. They are vegan cake makers, who make the most delicious cakes I have ever eaten. If you ever see them anywhere, do sample some of their ginger cake, it's the best!

Well, what a busy November it has been so far!

I bought this green chair today! Do you like it? There's a sofa on it's way too. I'm not looking forward to carting it up the stairs. I'm sure it will be worth it though.

I am busy making lots of fabric brooches for the Designers Makers Handmade Christmas Shop. You can see the flyer above. There will be lots of treats for sale here, and it's on for four weeks! I thoroughly recommend popping down if you are in the area.

I think we are pretty lucky to look out onto trees like this. I do have to stand on my tiptoes or a small box to see out of all our windows, but it is definitely worth the effort!

I like Autumn. The smells, the colours, the sunshine.

I am drawing some Autumn inspired illustrations for an exhibition at Leeds Gallery this evening. It's rather fun. I hope you are enjoying yourselves.

I am a collector of those small 'Obervers Books.'

I often hunt for them in my local charity shops.

Sometimes, I like to just sit and read them and draw from them. I am just about to read 'Notes From Walnut Tree Farm' by Roger Deakin and I am most excited about it. He seemed like a nice man.

Whilst I was studying my my degree. A very clever man once asked me why all the people I drew were balding, middle aged men with too many chins. Since then, I have been practicing how to draw girls. It's quite a tricky subject matter for me and I'm not sure why.

I do not know how people work in front of computer screens everyday. It makes my eyes funny.

Pop Up Print Shop

I am rather excited to be taking part in the Pop Up Print Shop at SMUG in London.

SMUG is a wonderful shop situated in Camden Passage. From the 26th of October the lovely folk at the shop are launching a a Pop Up Print Shop, filled with lots of prints by lots of artists, including some new work by me!

If you are around at that time, I thoroughly recommend popping in and having a rifle through... You might just find yourself a treat.

Here are a few snippets of some corners of my new flat. It's a very sloped old building, with angular ceilings, which I like a lot! I bought some new little plants. Their names are Thomas, Tony, Meg and Laura-Anne. I'm very much enjoying living here.

The sun beams through the window in the morning and there's a lovely view of trees. We also have an owl that frequently visits the tree just outside our bedroom window. He hoots to us.

It's moving day 1 today. I drew this when I couldn't get to sleep last night. I kept thinking of all the things to do today and I'm excited! It's strange, because I don't usually like the wind. It blows your hair everywhere and I always think things will fall down. I like a breeze though, but that's different. Maybe I was thinking about the winds of change whilst I was drawing, without realising it.

I am happy today!

I just found out that the estate agents decided to say 'yes' to Mark and I moving into our new flat. I'm excited.... Although it's completely unfurnished, so we need to buy a bed and a fridge and the like. I'm looking forward to shopping for mismatch chairs and things in charity shops. It's down a really good street with nice bars and shops and cafes.

Hurrah.

I also feel happy because today would have been my first day back at work, but instead I have been drawing, painting, sewing and listening to super music. Things are moving forward.

Hello there.

Well! My head is full up with lots of things to do. As you know I recently left my job to begin working freelance. It's rather scary, but I have been enjoying getting stuck into producing some work. Here are a few of my designs for my Christmas cards this year. I can't help drawing little birds. They have such character and I can draw them whilst sitting in the garden. I always imagine them wearing little outfits. Especially the male sparrow, he looks like he would wear a top and and carry a small cane under his wing.

These birds are getting ready for the festive season, as you can see. I'm quite excited to get them printed and packaged.

Also, remember these funny creatures?

They might just make a reappearance again this year.

This evening I have been sewing some new creatures to send to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park for their gallery shop. Im really pleased that people like these and have bought them! I think I will paint more of a summery background for these ones, seeing as it's summer. (Well it's supposed to be...)

I'm nearing the end of my wedding invite designs and they'll be ready to print in the next couple of days. I'm rather excited. I took a little break today to take some things to the charity shop. It' a good feeling......

I bought a spectacular little book for 99 pence. I had to share it. It's so strange and good.

'The Dog-faced Baboon is from the Coast of Guinea; it is very ferocious and disgusting when fully grown.'

On a less monkyish note, the flowers I planted are looking nice and colourful...

I like flowers and I like pocket sized books.

I have a new picnic and I love it so much. My mum gave me it and last weekend I finally had the chance to use it! I made a birthday picnic for my boyfriend's birthday which involved brie, cake, crisps, beer, scrumpy, chocolate rolls, dib-dabs and balloons.

I even made a new friend, as you can see. A wonderful time was had by all.

On a separate note, I have almost finished the final designs for my wedding invite commission. I can't wait to get them printed!

Last week, my boyfriend and I packed a tent, some blankets, wetsuits and a tent and went on our travels. We ended up in Wales, on the south-west coast. I must say that Welsh people are extremely friendly.

We camped here and there, the first night on a very windy, but beautiful beach.

After a few days we ended up in Glastonbury. I have never been before-it's got a pretty good tor.

Here are some of the things that I saw and did and liked:

-We made a huge fire on the beach.

-Ate salmon on a bbq.

-Watched two seals play and dance with each other for a long time.

-Jumped of the side of a disused, flooded quarry.

-Swam in the sea.

-Built kerns.

-Walked.

-Made friends with a boat man.

-Jumped into a waterfall.

-Watched the Royal Wedding and drank guinness.

-Played crazy golf.

-Climbed the tor and nearly got blown away.

-Watched the stars.

-Ate a curry.

-Sampled some scrumpy.

There's a great bookshop on Glastonbury called The Speaking Tree. The books are cheap....I treated myself to a few. This one was only £6.00...

I love everything about this book.

I had a wonderful week...

Well well well... I just discovered the artwork of Lee May Foster-Wilson.

She really is a multi-talented lady. She not only produces beautiful, lyrical paintings....

She also makes jewellery, clothing, accessories and screen prints. She is also a very good horse rider. (Which I always have respect for-I once had a bad experience on a horse up a mountain in Honduras, so I always think people who can ride are very clever).

I have been rather busy over the last week, making all of these little creatures. They are hand sewn from calico and painted...

They are all ready now in their frames to be taken to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, along with some prints and cards. They are having an exhibition there on the 8th of April and I'm excited for my work to be included....

I hope it is sunny tomorrow, as I'm spending the day there and I love it! I think I'll take a picnic. I thoroughly recommend going there if you haven't already been.

The other day I went for a nice big woodland walk with my boyfriend and saw a rather large white chalk horse up on a hill. We climbed a tree and had cheese sandwiches.

I also saw Jenny Wren, my favourite type of bird.

I just discovered a lovely shop called PlanetFur on Etsy. This clever lady is from The Netherlands and she makes funny little animals from felt. The narwhal at the top is my favourite. Apprently they use their tusks to communicate with each other. I would like one as a pet.

I'm having an afternoon to myself today and I like it.

I'm half watching Garden State whilst painting.

I like it.

I'm relaxed and content with myself.

I'm thinking about traveling around Eastern Europe in Summer and I'm excited. I like exploring new places. I don't really want a career. I think they're made up things. I do know that I want to paint and draw though so I'd quite like that as my job.

I recommend watching the film Garden State if you've not already seen it. If you have, watch it again.

I have been in Dublin for the last few days. (Pictures soon). Spring arrived whilst I was there, which was a nice surprise as I was expecting rain! I have been painting Spring things.

I never know whether I'm a fan of Valentines Day or not. Instead of buying something, I decided to paint these rather nice pebbles I found at the beach on Saturday. They are a pair of sloths. I hope Mark likes them. I also hope he doesn't see this before I give them to him.

I used to only be able to work on very large pieces of paper. No matter how I tried I couldn't constrain my drawings and paintings.

It's strange that now, I find myself working on a much smaller scale, drawing pictures of tiny things. I wonder if it's because I no longer have the freedom of a studio space at uni to spread out in (and often get quite messy with paint).

Not that it's a bad thing, maybe it's something I have recently learnt to do?

Does my environment directly effect the things I make? I don't know. Just a thought really before I go to sleep! Interesting though.....to me anyway!

Here are some small pictures I have made. I'm planning to make a whole series of sets to be sold, each having a different theme. Keep your eyes peeled my friends.

I think these dolls are really beautiful. They're like mixture of lots of different cultures all mixed together. I like they're little serious faces too.

Ha Noi, Vietnam.

It's one of the craziest, most colourful, vibrant and friendly place I have ever visited. I would highly recommend it and I really want to go back. Crossing the roads is quite a challange....I got laughed at by a police man when I was waiting for a safe place to spot. You know, just following the green cross code. He waved me along and said, 'Just go.'

I then realised you have to simply walk out into the oncoming sea of mopeds and they weave around you. If you stop though, you're in trouble.

The people here work every given hour, stopping only to eat. They bring out tiny plastic tables and chairs onto the streets and eat together, cooking on what ever they can. You can't walk a few metres without someone offering you some rice or a beer. It gave me a nice feeling.

Painting....

Painting is relaxing for me.

I'm thinking about developing these into larger paintings. It's been a long while since I've gotten all messy doing a big painting.

Once again please excuse the bad photographs. I've still not been able to download the software I need for my scanner. It's frustrating!

On the up-side I'm just waiting on lots of cards and prints of my drawings and paintings to be printed....so watch this space.

Amsterdam.

I visited Amsterdam last year. These are some photographs I took.

I liked it there a lot. I would like to see more of Holland.

I would also like to live on a house boat there for a wee bit. Preferably one with a little garden.

The buildings look like they're leaning up against each other, like someone has hammered a couple of extra ones in, squashing them all together. I went on a boat tour. I like boat tours.

Ready to find homes!....

A Christmas gift...

I was in a really good antiques warehouse just before Christmas and I spotted this rather lovely plastic drawer and jar set. I was however, doing Christmas shopping at the time so I didn't buy it for myself........which I instantly regretted when I got home.

Lo and behold on Christmas day I unwrapped a gift from my boyfriend and there it was!

I like the flowers, they remind me of kitchen wallpaper we had when i was little. It kind of foamy and I used to get in trouble for picking at it.

One thing on my to-do-list for 2011 is to make more things for my ETSY shop, and to make better use of my time in general. I think these things go together rather well .

At the moment I'm framing some of my recent soft sculptures, which will then be for sale in m shop. I always feel a bit mean putting them in a frame....

Also, don't you think 2011 sounds really futuristic? If I was 8, I'd have imagined silver space clothes.

My wonderful friend bought me this antique fan necklace. It actually opens and closes...I really love it and I plan to wear it everyday.

During my tidy up the other day, I found this little piece of coral and a wooden yellow hexagon. I like the shapes of both these things. I'm thinking of turning them in to a necklace.

Portrait of Space, 1937

I had a good sort out of all my books the other day......and my work, room and cupboards in general. Things like this only happen on the rare occasions were I want to tidy. I came across a little booklet from 'The Art Of Lee Miller' exhibition I went to a few years ago at the V&A museum in London.

I really love her work. There's something quite magical and otherworldly about it. She was a model, a journalist and a photographer.

'Portrait of Space' is my favourite.

I've been cutting ad sticking and making these collages of the buildings in Amsterdam.

I love it there. The houses are all miss-matched and squashed together. They have great roofs too.

Lately I've been mostly making some stuffed little cloud people. I can't decide weather to put them in a frame or make a mobile. I'll probably make some more and do both. I like sewing. I find it rather relaxing.

1. It was freezing today. I wore a lot of my clothes all at once and looked rather silly. It's made me realise how much I miss camping on the beach, strolling along the sand and swimming in the sea.....even in England!
2. I would love to own this car. Mine is old and will break soon I think. It is green though.

I gave been busy drawing and painting some card designs to be printed this week! I'm rather excited about this and have been looking for more shops that would like to sell my work.

When I went traveling around South East Asia, I saw how the people work for so many hours every single day. I finish work at 3.30pm....making me realise I have PLENTY of time to be getting on with illustration work. Just thought I'd let you know.

So, I shall post some pictures of my cards on here when they have been printed. Exciting!

Today I visited the lovely Mana Tree shop in Hull with two bags full of things that I have been making recently. They kindly agreed to sell my work in their shop, and seemed rather excited about it. This made me feel rather excited too.

After munching down some pasta I got on with making some labels for my cards and birds and things. I haven't used my type writer in ages. I do like it a lot. I know it takes longer than a computer, but there is something wonderful about the finished result. Plus it makes me feel like a secretary from the olden days.

Buildings.

I'm becoming slightly obsessed with the shapes of buildings.

(so don't be surprised if a fair few pop up on here).

This picture was taken by me in the South of France recently.

Drawing buildings was something I struggled with during my degree. I was a little scared of them. I'm not sure why really. We went to a drawing trip to Porto at the very beginning of the second year in our course. It's a brilliant city, if a little odd. my sketchbooks were full of all the people, sometimes strange (although I probably just picked out the strange ones), that inhabited Porto.

NO BUILDINGS!

I think if I returned there now, my sketches would look a lot different.

There's something rather nosy about buildings.....houses in particular. Don't you just want to climb up there and see who's sitting in that roof garden?

On another note, I'm excited because I posted 10 films to be developed from my Mini Diana camera. 10 films!! Most of which are from my travels around South East Asia. I can't wait to see them.

Good morning!

Some days I really do miss my Polaroid camera. I still have it, but as you probably know, they have stopped producing the films to fit them. These photographs were taken in Porto, Portugal. I love the buildings there. They're all so squashed together in a mish-mashed kind of way. The postcards are from an amazing market I stumbled across in Amsterdam last year. I love the buildings there too.

I made some paper bunting the other day just for fun. What do you think?

I'm framing some of my recent work ready to sell. What do you think of this lady? She crops up when I'm drawing quite a lot. This time she's donning a woolly jumper, as it's getting quite chilly up here.

I've been thoroughly enjoying sitting down and drawing people in the last few days. I will always love my pencil.
